Most of the Web Design world went to San Francisco for the conference. Sure is lonely here without them.
When I worked for the government in the mid-’90s, the Web sites were slowly popping up and were of average quality for the time. Actually, some were pretty pitiful. Whitehouse.gov wasn’t too bad. GW’s kids redesigned it and made little progress by way of Web design. Ben Henick gives you the gory details of what is wrong with it. Whoo boy… GW’s kid designers should screwed up and didn’t make it very usable for all Americans. What’s sad is that the State of Texas has a law that ALL Texas government-related Web sites must meet Web standards. Well, unfortunately, Georgie hails from Texas… and obviously didn’t take this law with him to Washingon. Ben wrote, “The accessibility statement crows about things that have been standard practice since 1995. Not a peep is made about Section 508 compliance.” Hello? Anyone home?
This is a great explanation on the differences between liquid, gelatin (I am not going to get in trouble for copyright infrigement and use the famous gelatin maker’s name), and ice. It only takes a moment to read and understand it. More great liquid tables stuff from Evolt.
We have a victim to the Allaire / Macromedia merger. NetObjects is ceasing operations and selling off its assets. From what I’ve seen so far, very few are upset about it. They offered NetObjects Fusion and NetObjects MatrixBuilder.
