This is the first milestone in redesigning this place. The weblog has moved over to Movable Type and it’s done an amazing job of importing over 250 entries. I ran into just one glitch during the whole installing, importing, loading, etc. adventure. Christine came to my rescue. She figured out and implemented a workaround in under one hour! I can’t give her enough thank yous for offering to help and digging right in.
I’ll write more later. It’s been a long day that’s not getting easier.
Those of you who’ve been around long enough to remember BBSing prior to Interneting may be interested in participating or reading about the BBS Documentary Project that Jason Scott has been working hard to put together.
Been a little quiet lately as I work behind the scenes on a few things. I’ll be publishing in a newsletter that comes via HTML email. You can get more info on the newsletter and subscribe. It’s in the plan to regularly contribute to the newsletter. Most of the articles will likely be focused on content.
All right, I’ll stop the links to 2001 stuff especially since I found a site that has a list. If you find more links, send it to Fimoculous.com.
I went to donate blood yesterday and when I went to sign in, I saw the person before me had the exact same birthday as me including the year. It was a "Whoa!" kind of a moment.
People with names like Michael, Jack, Sarah, and Rebecca are accustomed to seeing their names everywhere since they’re so common. They’re great names for people. I, on the other hand, still marvel when I see or meet other Meryls. It doesn’t happen often, but I did meet another Meryl last summer. For the heck of it, I went to see what I could find on the Net.
Shirts made with "Meryl" microfibre. Interesting, I suppose they’re made by Meryl.
Hints for a Playstation game called Metal Gear Solid mention a character named Meryl who is exercising in her cell. Well, the exercising makes her sound like a strong gal, but why is she in jail? The list indicates she can do sit up in her underwear and one arm push ups in her underwear. She’s definitely not modeled after me!
I never dreamed someone would name a dog… Meryl. A Doberman, eh?
The Dallas Morning News presents its version of buzz words of 2001. Brighthand offers its thoughts on the top PDA news stories of 2001.
If you sent me email on December 23 or 24, please resend it. All emails going to my onramp account got lost in space (yes, including those sent to meryl.net since I was not accessing the meryl.net server). I can receive email at meryl@meryl.net again. If I have not replied, it’s because I didn’t get your email. Oh, it’s great to get email again… thankfully it was a holiday weekend since email is generally slow during such times.
Merry Christmas. Happy Kwanzaa.
I previously noted that I was moving stuff from the old PC to the new PC. I spent most of yesterday installing, installing, loading, moving, etc. etc. and then by 10pm, I learned that everything would have to be wiped and the OS reloaded. Long story short, the PC to PC transfer feature that comes with XP… sucks. It brought over stuff we don’t want… and didn’t move stuff we needed. Don’t do it. It does not save you time at all. So, Paul stays up until 3am cleaning up the mess (I’m a lucky gal to have an in with a tech support manager). Again, I spent most of the day installing, installing, loading, moving, etc. etc.
One of the programs was Mastercook 5.0 Deluxe. Somehow, memory served me well and told me to go to Sierra’s Web site to download two patches. I did this yesterday and it worked flawlessly. Today was a different story and I couldn’t load the program. Frustrated with everything, I moved on to other things with plans to come back to it later. Later arrived and I went to Sierra’s tech support page to see if others had this problem. It took a little searching, but I found the answer and it worked.
Just finished watching "It’s A Wonderful Life" and it applied here. If it were not for the Internet, I would’ve had to wait until Wednesday since offices are closed tomorrow. On top of that, I would’ve had to nag Paul to call the Sierra tech support and he probably wouldn’t get around to it for awhile. Calling tech support through a relay is not fun especially with those stupid recordings. How is it not fun? Picture this:
TTY (teletypewriter = telephone for the deaf) calling operator (third party person) and tells operator to call Sierra Tech Support at 1-800-xxx-xxxx. Operator calls Sierra and gets the recording with the options. Operator types those options and I view them on the TTY. I wait for operator to finish typing and request pushing 2. Operator tells me recording has hung up and needs to redial to press 2. Redials, gets second level options, I wait, I request next option, recording hung up. Redial, rinse, repeat. Getting Mastercook working is not worth all this and nagging Paul. So, thank goodness for the Internet and its bringing together people with similar problems, thereby saving others from hours of wasted time and energy.
We talked to the email service provider and it’s possible my emails are getting lost out there in the binary world of ohs and ones.
On the bright side, got another Phoon and it’s with my girl. Get out there and Phoon! Remember to take a snapshot.
FYI – I cannot receive email right now. There are problems with my service, so please excuse the slow reply. Merry Christmas! If you don’t celebrate, enjoy the day off.
Spending most of the day trying to get the stuff from the old PC to the new PC. This old PC is incredibly stubborn and would not work with Laplink or any other direct connecting capabilities. Instead, we had to literally take out the old hard drive and shove it into the new PC for tranferring. It is just as well as I did this today since I can’t get incoming email. I can send email, but can’t receive it.
It’s official! Sooz Radio is 1 today. Go listen and celebrate!
