Desktop CMS

In Radio UserLand for Webloggers, Robert Scoble and John Robb write, “Radio is the first content management system to run on the desktop.”

I disagree. Joel and his team at Fog Creek Software released CityDesk before Radio 8 and it runs on the desktop.

Quick run through my favorite weblogs and caught this.

    Excellent catch and correction, Meryl.

One might also consider the various LiveJournal clients as desktop content management systems as well.

Okay, maybe I need something clarified, then. What is a desktop content management system? Is it any different from a content management system? Webfair is a CMS. Nextpage (LivePublish) is a CMS. They’ve both been around for years.

Here’s a question for you. Suppose I want to take Yourish.com and export it from html files to Radio. Now suppose I want to add permalinks to all my already-existing entries as well. Can I do that? I haven’t downloaded the trial version, and I only know the bits I’ve read on Scripting News.

That’s what I would definitely call content management, if it can be done.
