NJ Meryl shares her story of buying her first modem and succombing to the online world. It happened to me in the same year (1986), but hellifIknow what day. I agree with her, Ground Hog Day is a stupid holiday.
She had a much cooler handle (online nickname) than I did. Mine was so stupid that I have never blogged it.
Meryl also had a better start with 1200 baud. I had a measly 300 baud modem, but I did miraculously and excitedly joined the faster world in 1987 with a 2400 baud modem that I had to buy in Dallas, an hour away from Fort Worth where I lived.
BBS days were cool, but I don’t miss them since we’ve come a long way.

What was it? What was it?! grin
You know what I liked best about posting that article? Being able to give it a permalink of 2002020202. It was actually the first blog I posted today, and should have been 2002020201, but the symmetry just wouldn’t have been there.
I guess there are advantages in having to code your own permalinks. You get to make ‘em up instead of having to take what the codes give you.
