Damn the Speaker Phones

Pet peeve day. PLEASE don’t use your speaker phone at the office or turn it down. I’m hearing impaired, yet, every time I am in the office… I have to deal with a stray speaker phone and it annoys the heck out of me. Go get a headset or find a conference room.

Yeah, yeah… no conference rooms available. Then, use the phone receiver. That’s what they’re for.

Yes, I’m grumpy (I could use a stronger word, but I won’t), but that’s my problem. At least, I did use the word please.

The use of speakerphones in a non-private office is at best, rude, and at worst, egotistical and selfish.

I’m not hearing-impaired, and I hate the user of speakerphones in the office. I also used to hate it when my bosses used to come into the programmers’ office–where we were all hard at work programming–to talk on their cell phones because they liked to walk and talk. It was distracting and I really believe they did it because it seemed “cool” to them.

The fact that they were idiots was, alas, not clear to me until a few months after I was hired.

No, you’re not grumpy…well maybe. But it is those darned marketing folk who love to speak into their speaker phones. Wait, yell, not speak. Grrr!

In general I’m not a big fan of loud noise in the environment around me. Whether they use speakerphones or handsets some people are just really loud.

I usually cocoon myself inside my iPod and headphones. That blocks out most of the worst offenders.

It is “minuscule”, Mithun :-) – imported via French (“minuscule”, same word, but doesn’t sound the same!) from the latin “minuscula”.

If you start putting comments on my buddy Meryl’s blog and stay silent on mine, I’m going to be real jealous!!

Hehe. Nice to “see” you though, yaar.

Can I get a witness here? Farking speaker phones. I work in a call center. The speaker phone is the bane of my existence. Grrr. I’m with you on this one Meryl.

People in a CALL CENTRE using speaker phones? Whee, that would never be allowed where I work (not exactly /in/ the call centre, but just next to it).

No, no. People calling into us are on their speakerphones. Here we just shout above one another until the sound is unbearable. ;p
