Imagine my surprise when I saw a note about the Dallas mayor in Mark’s blog. Never thought that the Dallas mayoral election would interest people outside of the Dallas area (I’m in Plano, so I can’t vote there). The original post comes from More Like This Web Log.
Yes, Laura Miller is a controversial person with a lot of opposition. But, she captured most of the Dallas elite neighborhoods. It was the minority neighborhoods that she lost to the opposition.
If the mayor was Larry Miller instead of Laura Miller, would people gripe about her personality? It’s going to be interesting to watch what she does for Dallas in 18 months before her term is up (she filled former mayor Ron Kirk’s spot when he resigned to run for another position).

The Miller story interested me because:
1) John Nichols over at the Nation blogged it first. And Nichols used to be on the editorial team at the Capital Times back in Madison (where I lived for 10 years)
2) I grew up in Dallas. Well, Garland actualy…
There’s a town in Texas called Garland?
Wow. I’d have thought they’d have either changed its name or run it out of Texas.
