Happy Birthday to New Breed Librarian! Are you tired of Netscape’s inability to make its 6.x browser as good as 4.x only with standardized features? Do you like to root for the underdog and stay away from IE when possible? There is one alternative that could be gaining on the original big two and Shirley Kaiser covers it in this month’s Tech Talk. She gives you the lowdown on Opera 6.0, its current and new features.

Well, Opera is getting better about the feature that matters most to me: not trying to convince their users that anything which doesn’t work in Opera is the page designer’s fault! At least for Javascript, their number one reason for a page where it doesn’t seem to work right in Opera is “A bug in Opera or a feature which hasn’t been implemented yet.” A great improvement over the “most standards-compliant browser on Earth” era, when they encouraged users to accuse the designer of anything that didn’t work in Opera of being a Microsoft/AOL tool. I haven’t quite forgiven them yet, but I’m ranting about their lame DOM implementation a little less often.
