See the before and after in the 37BetterFedEx by 37signals project. 37signals gave an action-packed presentation at sxsw. They find the most creative ways to prove a point without an article or boring white paper. [Link Zeldman]
A lot of their sites are pretty good, but I just have to say that some of them are too stark. Maybe it’s just me … we all have different tastes! The FedEx site is a definite improvement though!
Hence the whole simplicity in web design thing, I guess. Some of their websites are like drinking Guiness… you have you develop a taste for them, but once you get used to the look and feel of the website, you really get into it. The kicksology.net webpage is a perfect example. Shoe websites aren’t supposed to be elegant looking. But then you get settled into it and everything works at the end.
