Bush and Real-Life Accessibility

In honor of my Bush-lovin’ friends… OK, that’s Bush “bad press and bad moves” lovin’ friends. Bush waves at Stevie Wonder (last paragraph). Real smooth, Shrub. [Link RoyalTS]

It’s like the time when a co-worker was in the elevator with Paul. The co-worker was looking at the elevator buttons, which had Braille on them.

Co-worker: Can she read Braille?

Paul: She’s deaf, not blind.

Me: Oh, yeah, I should’ve learned to rub my ears on the buttons.

There was the time at the airport when someone thought I needed a wheelchair.

Another kind of assumption: When I met Al Gore in a town hall meeting, he started “signing” to me. I told him that I didn’t know sign language. Not bragging &mdash I don’t know the language, that’s all. The point is that I don’t want people to automatically assume that all deaf people know it. Yes, there’s diversity among people with similar disabilities.
