KUI

I’m all for keyboard shortcut standards. Like CTRL-C (copy or steal this stuff), CTRL-V (paste without glue), CTRL-X (snip without sharpness), and CTRL-B (bold this so it sticks out). It drives me bonkers when a software creates its own shortcuts deviating from these norms. All right, so what if they started with Micro$oft’s product, Word Perfect used these, too. I had to rant about that since the following made me think about it.

Guidelines for Keyboard User Interface (KUI) Design on a Micro$oft Winders application. KUI lets people navigate the user interface by using the keyboard alone or in comination with another device. The guideline will help ensure that your application is accessible for people with disabilities. [Link Makovision]

If you want to get it feel for what it’s like to navigate a Web site as a person with a disability, dig into the WebAIM Online class. After just one week, I’ve learned a few things. Week 2 begins today.

I’m with you. I’m a keyboard junkie, i’ve written my fair share of email complaints to software developers about it to. I’ve even stopped using some otherwise good software for those reasons.

What if you don’t have a pc? The MacOS uses the command key for this, not the control key… would you mind about that?

I myself like the keyboard short cuts. Of course I remember when CTRL-C didn’t mean copy, but break.

I use the old CTRL-INS, CTRL-DEL, Shift-INS, for Copy, Cut and Paste.

Personally I just can’t bring my self to use CTRL-C for copy.
