Friday, May 24th, 2002 at 11:23 AM | 2 commentskartoo is a pretty search engine that displays the results in a visual map using Flash. Naturally, I entered “meryl” and saw Meryl Y., me, links to Str33p, and a musician. Move the mouse pointer over the ball (no clicking needed) to get a description. Move the pointer over a topic like Contact or any of the items in the left hand corner to get more (or less) related on the topic. The green bars on the right indicate the number of Web sites related to the request. The more green bars, the more Web sites. Innovative, but can’t see it replacing Google, of course.

From what I’ve seen it’s a search engine like Magellan is/was a search engine. It uses the top 20 or so search engines to do its seaching (Google included). It seems that their goal isn’t to replace Google, or yahoo, or anyone else but to provide a more useful presentation of the results.
It’s certainly a great way to interpet. In theory at least. Google is still my holy grail for basic web searching, but I’m always up for new ways of presenting information
