37signals did it again. They’ve created of what they believe is the future of automotive Web sites. Like the Federal Express Web site, they were frustrated with existing autmotive sites and decided to take the law in their own hands to show how it should be done.

I’ve now seen two comments on how great 37signals is. When I first looked at their homepage I was impressed by the layout. However, and this is big, their code is horrendous. Mainly they use nested tables like there’s no tomorrow. Most all of this can be done in CSS. Now that would be impressive. Also, All their maroon headlines are graphics. Slows loadtime and is unnecessary. Use CSS.

We feel your pain regarding the embedded tables (we try to avoid them at all costs), but we still aren’t convinced that full CSS is ready for prime time. Our weblog, SvN, is actually done with CSS/XHTML, but when we launched our new corporate site we didn’t feel like CSS was the way to go.

However, we are working on a revised version of our corporate site that we may render in full CSS/XHTML. Stay tuned.
