Funny, I was thinking about the topic of Students shirk cursive rules in third grade for the past year while my daughter was in third grade. She learned cursive, but she also uses the computer in the classroom to do reports.
I have a personal journal that I’ve kept since 1989 and it’s all handwritten. Whenever I write a page or longer, my hand hurts since I seldomly write with a pen or pencil. But I agree with Christine that there is something to be said for handwritten notes.
Every year on a child’s birthday, I write a letter to the child reflecting on the past year. Unfortunately, in the past few years these letters have been typed instead of written. With the little time I have, I find it faster to use the computer than to write it. At least, I have my eight books of journals for the kids to read someday and get a feel for my writing.
Cursive is still important and I agree with my daughter’s school’s approach — teaching cursive and computing.
I can’t let this special day pass without saying anything. Today is Paul and my 14th anniversary. Though I get tons of cards from him (often more than one for each occasion), I believe the one I got today is the most meaningful. I don’t know how I got lucky to land Paul for life.
It’d be great if some of you email him a note wishing him a happy anniversary and how his wife is blessed to have him. The email address is paul at meryl dot net.
End mushy post.
MS FrontPage has captured the Web design world’s attention especially the crew behind Webstandards.org. I agree with the organization’s posting regarding FrontPage.
Microsoft Office 2003 Beta 2 Review is worth a look because of the screenshots included for the products included with MS Office 2003.
Thurrott states FrontPage has significantly changed and has disposed of its FrontPage Server Extensions (whoo hoo!) and included tools that provide industry standard CSS-based layout capabilities.
From the summary, I get the impression the upgrade to Office 2003 isn’t going to be worth it unless the purchaser spends a lot of time using Outlook for managing emails and performing personal information management tasks. This is a review of the beta version, so there might be a few more surprises in store.
Microsoft aims higher with FrontPage 2003 slated to come out this summer. Supposedly, this new version has enhancements that will appeal to Web designers such as generating clean, industry-standard HTML code. The software will have XML support.
I’ll take a gamble and bet that the FrontPage 2003 code won’t be as clean and sleek as Dreamweaver.
Stepping on a Soap Box with regard to emails. This Flash cartoon receives bonus points because it’s captioned and hilarious.
A study indicates that 86% of broadband users leave doors wide open for attack. The article gives three elements for staying safe.
Adrian Holovaty has started a little project of Finding the Web editor. The purpose is to go to various online news sites and locate the Web editor’s email address.
Since I regularly write reviews of Web sites and software, I often need to contact the people behind the site or product. In doing so, I’ve learned a few basic tricks and make a habit of using them. However, a few sites elude me and require digging deep or giving up altogether. Some of the ways I find the email aren’t typical for most users and would like take longer. [Resource Webreference]
