Sites Don’t Validate

I’ve been moving the sites on the old CSS Table-less site to the new version that has no tables. I mentioned in an entry a few days ago that many failed validation simply because of the lack of doctype declaration. Heck, I found a site using CSS for positioning, yet it had the font tag within the markup! Getting rid of <fontgt; is easier than using CSS for positioning.

The Web Standards Project reminded me that the Webby Award winners have been announced. They also saved me a lot of legwork in determining which winners’ sites validate and which don’t. Sadly, only one validated and two came close. It doesn’t surprise me as I reviewed many of the nominees. Very few sites validated or even had accessible features included even adding the simple alt attribute. C’mon — the alt attribute is one of the easiest things to do.
