MCSE Boot Camp

You won’t see people sweating while doing 100 push ups, running in the pouring rain and taking their physical fitness beyond their limits. There is no bugle blowing at 5:00 AM. Heck, no one dresses alike at geek boot camp. It may not have such physical challenges, but it’s demanding like a traditional boot camp with a different focus. I took the boot camp route for my 2K cert a few years back. A lot faster than my first MCSE (way back in NT3.5/3.51 days, one of DEC’s first in our “agreement” with MS). Not a bad deal if you can devote the time to it. Just be sure to follow it up with “real” work, lest all that learning be forgotten just as quickly.

People are still getting their MCSE? My friend works for Sprint, and he decommissioned 40 windows servers, and they were able to consolidate everything on these 40 servers onto 1 Linux box. Windows is a waste of money.

I agree with Steven – I just upgrade my cert from NT4 to 2k3. It was blood and guts and gore and veins in my teeth the first time around, and this time I spent a blissful (OK, perhaps I’m pusing it) 3 weeks getting MCSA, MCSE and CCNA. I blogged my experiences at http://leonadato.blogspot.com – purely emotion, no technical info there. But we had a great group and a fantastic instructor and it was worth recording for posterity. If you need to certify (and I disagree with “entertainment”, whoever that really is. LOTS of people still certify these days!) and can afford the cash up front, it is truly worth it. And the good boot camp programs make sure you walk out with more than just the knowledge of how to click buttons on an exam.
