Personal Computer World offers a guided tour of SP2.
The mega-sized SP2 is available on CD. The download is 75 megs for personal PCs and 266 megs for the full “network install.” The CD is free, but takes four to six weeks for delivery.
Microsoft has released a kit for finding compatibility problems, instructions on rolling out fixes, and deployment road maps. All this is available through the Application Compatibility Testing and Mitigation Guide for Windows XP Service Pack 2 “will assist IT professionals to test and mitigate application compatibility issues arising from these more stringent security technologies.” This Microsoft Knowledgebase article discusses applications that stop working after installing SP 2, which may require the manual opening of a port.

TechRepublic provides details on how SP2 affects wireless networking. A person shares his experience in installing SP2 and IT managers are happy with SP2 while another article indicates a third of IT managers are struggling with it.

I too ordered my SP-2 CD on 8/26, and received my CD on 8/30. My compliments and Aloha to the MS team, who is really great!
Excellence. Ordered Aug26,rec’d Aug29. Loaded very very fast. ( I’m always up to date.) Had to turn things off/on. It DID change some settings that I had to tweak. The pop up block is far better than the free ones I have tried. (Compatibility? with XP?) This load was faster/better than the SP1 disk I received.
