Just like the author of this article, I wasted a lot of money staying with the same Web host company since I started meryl.net. I was afraid to change because it meant messing up my blog bookmarks, risking data loss or misplacement, and worrying if the new host’s service was going to be as good. Moving was the best thing I’ve done for my Web site and wallet. I gained huge cost savings, a faster and more responsive tech support, and more features for less money.
If you’ve been with a company for a few years, you may want to consider looking around. I know it’s hard to let go of the security you’ve had with the Web host, but the money savings, more features, and improved tech support was worth it. If you do your research, you can reduce the risk of signing up with a bad provider. You can always do a comparison of your provider against others, making a list of the features each offers. If they’re even on everything except price, take that information to your provider and perhaps the price will come down.

If you need a great webhost, let me know. I provide hosting with great 24/7 tech support and reasonable rates.
I stayed with my original company from 1997 until 2003 when I decided to host all of my domains in one place. I’ve been with my current host since 2003 with no problems. I only looked for new hosting when I started to encounter problem and when they could no longer provide the services I wanted.
I do look from time to time at alternative hosting solutions, (there are some great packages out there, Dreamhost appears to be extremly popular) but for now at least, I’m more than happy with my hosts United Hosting.co.uk
One of the great thing about companies that use cPanel is that migrating to other companies that use it is fairly quick and easy. It was nice to be able to move bloghost clients in to Blogomania without to much fuss - and good for them since they needed a fast, easy way to move! But you are right - it is good to shop around.
