I think people are not going as nuts about a new Harry Potter book as they have in the past. After the long wait for Book 5, I think we’ve learned patience. The Dallas Morning News (free sign-in might be required) asked its readers to write a page of what is in Book 6. There were impressive entries from people of all ages.
I’m trying like crazy to read two books I’m reviewing because I’m going to have to set them aside to read Harry 6. Unfortunately, I keep falling asleep early, which is during reading time. I don’t want to wait and risk hearing what happens before I read it. Turns out the book is not bigger this time, but 200 pages shorter than Book 5. It still has a hefty 672 pages to fawn over. I try to take in every word as carefully as possible though it’s tempting to read fast and find out what happens.

My wife made me pre-order the book many months ago, but I’m just as much of a Potter fan as she is, if truth be told. It is hard to imagine a series of books that have done more to advance the cause of reading. I love that adults and children alike can derive so much pleasure from them, and it is interesting to see how Rowling’s writing technique improves with each novel, much like a child’s reading ability does.
