UpYourBudget Bonkers and the ’80s

I don’t know what prompted me to lose my mind today and actually drive out to downtown Dallas and search for the sticker. I left my house at 9:00 am and parked behind Star Liquor located at 400 N Lamar St. As I approached the parking lot, I found the W and the green covered parking sign that is shown in the video. Started walking to the liquor store and looked around. Immediately saw the weird yellow circles and found the iPod ad. Saw no drainage pipe.

Walked toward the steakhouse thinking it was a clue and kept looking at the parking lots because I was sure from day two that it was somewhere in a parking lot. Took pictures of my adventures with the digital camera and Sidekick camera. Guess which ones came from the Sidekick.

By the time I reached the sixth Floor Museum, I thought it was hopeless. As I started to walk away from it, I saw the owl. Of course, it was the owls from Hooters. I looked around further and didn’t see anything as I continued to make my way to the car. Then I saw the overpass with a parking lot under it and my first drainage pipe! I went through it and didn’t find the right one. I figured the game was probably over when I wasn’t seeing other hunters. Either that or I was off base as I never made it to city hall.

The experience gave me a few things even though it didn’t up my budget. Rather, it reduced my budget by $3 that I had to pay for parking. I got cuts and blisters on my feet though I wore slides-style tennis shoes. They never hurt my feet like that before. Then, I got them wet, but didn’t see a puddle — just a wet sidewalk.

It was an adventure because it forced me to drive downtown and explore it. I had never been in the Sixth Floor Museum before. So I went in for a minute and looked at the exhibits. I’ve always disliked the thought of going downtown and I think it was the first time I went alone. I overcame that, but I still don’t want to go there unless I have to. I went in spite of knowing many others were looking and I was unlikely to have any info they haven’t already figured out.

Though I didn’t even find the sticker, I’m glad I did it. I had to go out anyway because I went to Ragwear to find 1980s clothes for my parents’ 50th anniversary party. Found a Members Only jacket for $18. The price tag from the ’80s was still on it and it was $67. Unfortunately, all they had in Paul’s size was aqua. Maybe it’ll be dark at the park and no one will know what color it is. I wish I had thought of it sooner as eBay has plenty.

I found a black acid wash jean skirt. The others were too danged short. Oh, I know that was normal of the ’80s, but this is a nice party. Got a red polo shirt to go with it since there weren’t many blouses. Had to go to the big and tall store to get Paul a white “Polo” shirt since the vintage store didn’t have any in his size. Also saw Flashdance type blouses. I only wore ONE and it was for bedtime.

Whew. Enough flashbacks for the day! Here’s more gnarly ’80s stuff.

Update: Just learned the sticker (which was stolen) was located in “Dallas West End on a pole under a bridge it has a sign that says ‘No War’ Across from Hooters.”

Darn it! I was there! I was not clear on the sticker thievery as I know they’re not supposed to be removed.
