My 2 sons are 10 and 3, so this nasty bit of the Internet is still a few years away. However, despite all of the contempt I receive from others, my oldest boy accesses the web only through AOL.

No one has shown me any kid-filtering software that comes even close to AOL's KOL. Each day I get a report on where he's surfed, who he has IMd and e-mailed. If he wants to visit a site that's not already on his whitelist, he can either e-mail or IM me (or my much better half) and we can approve the site (or not). And the daily report lists any site he's been denied from visiting; good to know should he ever start exploring.

Worth the extra bucks, no doubt about it.
