I’ve been swamped — not that it matters to you, but the situation makes it harder for me to take time to think about a topic and write it. I started a new gig a few weeks ago where I have to turn around a story within hours of assignment. Because of relay phone calls, the assignment takes longer for me to complete. I haven’t had much luck in the last two assignments.
Last Friday, I did a lousy job of writing a clear and structured story. The topic covered geology and every approach I took to explain the scientific aspects failed. Yesterday, the editor assigned a fascinating story. I talked to three people. One responded, the other two didn’t and I followed up with them. The others I tried to interview weren’t reachable even though I left phone messages and emails.
I’m confident I’m doing all the right things, but don’t have good results to show for it. The work is fun and I’ve learned a lot of new things in the world of science and technology.
Back on the topic of writing. I didn’t post yesterday, so I forced myself to write something today. Funny, I came across two posts from Ted on this topic. That’s what I was doing… trolling other blogs and sites for conversations to join when I found his entries.
Usually I like to build up a nice backlog of entries, but I can’t clear through the swamp and I have no backlog. Regularly blogging for three places is a tough job. InformIT gets first priority. Bionic Ear and this one depend on the time and topics.
The swamp-ness isn’t going to slow anytime soon, but I continue blogging because I am better at being part of this kind of conversation than one in person. Listening online is easier for me and I value listening, which isn’t always possible in the real-world as I’ve said many times that I’m not a perfect lipreader.
Anyway, there you have it. I found my inspiration by looking at another blog. If it didn’t work, then next would’ve been to check out the hottest news. Of course, that doesn’t give me the much-needed time, but this entry took about 10 minutes. Now off to do carpool.

According to the topics I have seen in your blog, it’s harder to find a decent comment to accept, maybe?
