Well in regard to Office it is hardly Apples fault... Up until the latest version Microsoft has promised to keep Office fully cross-platform, but that doesn't seem like a priority anymore. This could be to try and get Apple to stop developing and touting iWork.

I'm not sure how many files contain VBA. On my computer, probably 50% of the Excel files do (but then, I write these routines for a living), and my normal.dot Word template has some routines I've written over the years to help me reduce the pain of repetitive tasks.

I don't know what the breakdown is for a "typical" user. Many business users have their favorite add-ins, which all rely on VBA. Many companies also distribute add-ins in house, and some companies are moving towards .Net for Office automation, which is also unavailable on Macs. I don't think Apple is seriously marketing to the business users, though, mostly home and school users, who are less likely to install add-ins.

Jon Peltier's last blog post..Column Chart to Replace Multiple Pie Charts

Interesting report, Jon. I wonder how many -- on average -- files have VBA in them?

The Mac ads themselves are very deceptive. According to the ads, you might as well get a Mac because all your MS Office files work just fine on the Mac.

This is an outright lie. If any of these Office files uses VBA for any reason, or if the user has any add-ins (which use VBA), that VBA will fail on MacOffice 2008, because VBA support was discontinued in this version of MacOffice.
