Thank you, Annie. I was lucky that I didn’t have many chores to do when I was growing up. Yet, I know how to do it all. Just because children don’t learn how to operate a washing machine before graduating doesn’t mean they can’t figure it out on their own like I did. We do make them do some work, but they’re kids for a short time and they learn how to be respectful in other ways.

Ahhh! When my children were young, clean up time was not as important either. There will be a time when the house will be clean and the chaos will be missed. How wonderful that you are observant. It inspired a wonderful post!

Terro, thank you. I feel like I needed to say all that even though I knew it was going in different directions.

Luke, it’s finally starting to fade. So all I can figure is that some worker had gunk on his shoe and it stuck to my sidewalk. We did have city workers in the neighborhood twice recently and perhaps, it was them.

I also liked meandering to your conclusion, Meryl. “Letting go of disarray” is a lesson I’ve also had to learn (albeit incompletely). My mother used to say (not so much when I was a kid, but with later wisdom): “The house can wait.” So it can, and frequently it should.
