What!?! This post is rollicking laugh-out-loud funny so who wouldn't want the book? I had to set aside my drink (a little early for the hard stuff unless you consider Starbucks lattes hard) lest I spill it from my boisterous laughter. I can only imagine what I'll find tucked between the covers of You Can’t Drink All Day If You Don’t Start in the Morning. From now on, Celia Rivenbark will be synonymous when I mention Sedaris and Stewart. Pick me! Please?

Meryl,

Thanks for the spit-take warning; it’s tough to get spots off of the laptop screen.

I was drawn in by the title alone – but since I’m much deeper than that, I read the entire post. This leads me here, a non-writer gathering the guts to comment on a real writer’s blog. (Nobody is accusing this displaced New Yawka of being overly bright!)

I must read Celia’s book – and then share it with my family – a clever (read “smartass”) group that equal-opportunity criticizes, elevating envy to the level of art form. An enchanting gang, but I love them!

The real question is whether the weddings, funky fruit, and dead bodies ever appeared in the same story, because that would be one hell of a wedding video. It would beat out that silly dancing vows video, hands-down.

Anyway, I'm always on the lookout for some new funny women. The dudes get all the airplay, but we all know that women have the funniest stories.

Meryl, I feel bad for entering to take away your copy of the book, but who are we kidding I was laughing my tail off and I want that book! So as a dyed in the wool Westerner, (what does that expression mean anyway?) I can say that the humor translates quite nicely, thank you very much. Okay, so I don't live in the West anymore, technically it's Midwest but we're on Eastern Standard Time, go figure. I live in a state that no one wants to claim but it's definitely not the South. Celia is funny and just won a new fan. Granted, I can't give her a Pulitzer but by golly I can chat away about her books until people are so sick of me they'll buy. Well, I might rethink that strategy but you get the picture.

Meryl,
What a joy to discover your blog. Great content, and a great introduction to Celia Rivenbark. She's hilarious.

While I don't live in the South, I sure appreciate day-long drinking. I could learn more if I had the book! Please sign me up, count me in, and add me to your objective, robotic pool of random.

With thanks,
Drew
