How Do I Name Thee?

Wren sounds musical, lyrical... but not after you read the real story of how Wanda came up with the baby's name.

Anyone got an interesting baby naming story? Please share.

My stories are boring. Both kids named after relatives as am I except my sister, then 12-years old, threatened to run away from home if my mom named me Meredith. Eventually, it became Meryl after my paternal grandfather, Max.

During our first pregnancy, we watched an entire season of the PBS series 'All Creatures Great and Small.' Having read all the books more than once, the name 'Tristan' really appealed to me, and what better middle name than 'James', to balance the practical joking ne'er-do-well with the staid conservative. Alas, there was another influence we hadn't counted on.

My mother began referring to the baby as 'Tristan James Montgomery Canfield the Third.' Even she doesn't know where the 'Montgomery' came from (Montgomery Field is the small local airport near here, named after John J. Montgomery, builder and pilot of the first manned, controlled, heavier-than-air flying machine - it's a likely candidate.)

By the time he was born, it was no longer possible to say 'Tristan James', he was 'Tristan James Montgomery Canfield.' Having set the precedent, all four of our kids have two middle names. By my calculations, that saved us having two more children to use up the allotted names.
